FLORENCE EVELYN SUMMACH
1923 - 2017
Florence Evelyn Summach (Flo) passed away on September 15, 2017 at Extendicare. She was born on October 14, 1923 in Saskatoon to Irish immigrants Tom and Maude Lipsett. The eldest of 5 children, she lived in various small towns in the province where her father operated dry goods stores. Florence returned to Saskatoon as a teenager. She graduated from Bedford Road Collegiate and Robertson's Secretarial School. She married her first husband, Warrant Officer John William (Bill) Buttrey in 1943. They had a daughter Maureen in 1944. Bill was killed in action in 1945. She married Harold William Summach in 1968. Flo and Harold ran Lipsett's Footwear on 33rd St. West for many years, in later years joined by son-in-law Bob McPherson. She loved all aspects of the business, working until she was 80. Flo, Harold and Bob were very appreciative of all the wonderful people who worked for them over the years and made running the business such a pleasure. Aunty Flossy was one of my favourite people growing up. I saw, in her a very proud, graceful and loving woman. I remember the trips she took my cousins and I on during summer holidays and the sleep overs that I loved.
She was very good to my husband and he had great respect for her. They had the same sense of humour.
She will be missed but will always be in our hearts. Our thoughts go out to you, Maureen and your family.

Maureen, Bob, Iona and Alexis, Ernie and I along with Jennifer and daughter, and Jason and family wish to express our sympathy for the loss of your mother and grandmother. I remember seeing her at many of our childrens' school activities, always supporting her grandchildren. We will keep you all in our thoughts.

Flo (we called her Flossy in the early years) was one of the sweetest women I've ever known; kind, generous, hard-working, and adventurous. She has been my dearest cousin for as long as I can remember.

Her journey here is now over as she is reunited with Harold and is face to face with her Lord.

Rest in peace dear Flo. These last years of struggle are over.

You are deeply missed.

Love,
Peggy

Dear Maureen and Bob,
Although I did not meet or know your Mom she sounds like a wonderful lady who lived long and well.
My sincere sympathy on your loss-- never easy to lose your Mom.

Flo, as I knew her, was always a very classy lady, generous to a fault, very caring and it was a privilege to know her.
