Adolph MATSALLA Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from May 20 to May 21, 2015.

ADOLPH SYLVESTER MATSALLA
March 22, 1926 - May 18, 2015
It is with profound sadness that the family announces that Adolph peacefully passed away on May 18th. He has joined his wife Anne and some of her family; his parents Victor and Mary; his sisters Jennie and Justyna; and his brother Leon in a better place. He is survived by his sisters Gertrude and Evelyn; his brothers Florian and Raymond; and by his wife Marcella and her children; his children Les (Joanne), Marianne (Michael), Ronald (Donna) and Cheryl (Blaine); his grandchildren Chad (Tanya), Graham (Kim), Brennen, Katelyn, Ryan and Kelley; and great- grandchildren Alexander and Austin; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances. Adolph was born in 1926 on a small farm in the Rama district and, at the age of 17, he commenced teaching many grades in a number of rural schools. After marrying Anne and starting a family, he worked as a secretary-treasurer at the R.M. of Buchanan where he remained for 23 years. Public service called and in 1967, he was elected to the Legislature as the NDP member for Canora for the first of four consecutive terms until his retirement in 1975, during which time he served in many capacities including as a member of Cabinet as the Minister of Tourism. He returned to municipal work for a number of years. After his retirement, Anne's health prompted a move to Saskatoon and some years after her passing he moved into assisted living premises where he met and later married Marcella. Adolph's patience and commitment to church, his family and those he served was without equal. A Celebration of Adolph's Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23rd at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Plc). The Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279 - 3rd Ave North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8).
