NOVEMBER 23, 1919 - SEPTEMBER 24, 2013
It is with great sadness, the family of Bill Schindel announces his passing on Tuesday, September 24th at the Veterans Village in Sherbrooke Community Centre at the age of 93. Bill was born on November 23,1919, on the family farm in the Bergheim District, East of Saskatoon. After serving in the Army during the Second World War, he started a long and satisfying career in construction with Smith Brothers & Wilson (now Wright Construction) retiring at age 65. He had many interests including hunting, fishing, gardening, curling and golfing. In the early 60s, Bill discovered Candle Lake and built a cottage there. After he retired, Bill and Elvira spent almost six months each year living at the lake - fishing, golfing and gardening. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elvira; children, Terry (Lyle) Ponath, Barry (Donna), and Ron (Nancy); grandchildren, Nicole Ponath, Michael (Ellen) Ponath, Justin Schindel, Christine (Ryan) Green, Stephanie (Brett) Husky, and Curtis Schindel; great grandchildren, Kyra, Jesse & Bennett Ponath, Gradyn & Ayla Green, and Riel Husky. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline; his brothers Herman & Benny (Katy); and his sisters-in-law Lillian, Gladys and Helen. He was predeceased by his parents, nine brothers and three sisters. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Saskatoon Funeral Home at 2 pm conducted by Pastor Ali Tote. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). Arrangements are entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.
