DOROTHY ASKWITH With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Dorothy, on April 2nd, 2012. She is gone to join her husband, Harold. Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her four children, Sylvia Wilkes, Saskatoon, Valerie (Kevin) Grunow, Saskatoon, Heather (Rod) Dean, Grande Prairie AB, and Dean (Maxine) Askwith, Saskatoon; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. As well, she is survived by her sisters, Marge Lafromboise, and Shirley (Bing) Shearer and one brother Harold Trottier of Calgary. Dorothy touched many lives. She served in WWII in the RCAF Women's Division from 1939 to 1945, was a member of St. John Bosco CWL for many years and was also a member of the Metis Local #165. Dorothy retired in 1990 from the Native Alcohol Centre as an addictions counselor. She took a lot of pride in being able to use her own life experience to help create positive changes in many people's lives and families. She was a recipient of the Governor General Golden Jubilee medal in 2002 as well as the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005. Dorothy was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and showered her family with love. She loved cooking, gardening and dazzling us all with her wonderful sense of humor. She will be forever missed. A special thank you to the Extendicare staff for the care and compassion shown to Dorothy over the last several months. Vigil of Prayer will be held Monday, April 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., both at St. John Bosco Parish (1202 Ave. O South). In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's name may be made to a charity of one's choice. Family and friends may send online condolences from the website . Arrangements entrusted to Charmaine Legrand.
