Eleanor Joyce (Schultz) Mandtler
July 28, 1922 – March 2, 2013
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Eleanor Joyce (Schultz) Mandtler on March 2, 2013 at the age of 90. Eleanor was born July 28, 1922 to Cornelius J. and Elizabeth Friesen of the Langham area. On July 9, 1944 she married Walter Schultz and together they began a farming operation in the Langham district. Two daughters, Elaine and Patricia, were born to them. Eleanor had incredible artistic gifts. She was an excellent seamstress and designer which meant her daughters always wore the latest fashions. Hospitality was another talent; her warmth and charm made people instantly feel comfortable and welcomed. Eleanor had a sparkling personality. She loved life and never failed to find new and exciting avenues of interest. Walter and Eleanor enjoyed 13 winters in Arizona until Walter's health began to fail. Eleanor nursed him faithfully while keeping up the family's morale. Walter passed away November 20, 1988. Eleanor married Menno Mandtler on August 10, 1991 and they spent 22 happy years together travelling and entertaining their friends. Menno passed away January 19, 2013. Eleanor is predeceased by her parents Cornelius and Elizabeth Friesen; her first husband Walter Schultz; her second husband Menno Mandtler; her brother Blake and wife Louise Friesen; and her sister Lillian and husband Albert Peters. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Elaine and Patricia; sons-in-law Peter Caspari and Ben Pickford; brother Edgar (Lillian) Friesen of St. Catharines, Ontario; brother John (Leola) Friesen of Langham; sister-in-law Elizabeth Schultz of Saskatoon; and Menno's children Gerald (Marj) Mandtler, Janice (Jim) Glasspell, Les (Eva) Mandtler and Judy Giroux.
