Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Fairweather
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Fairweather. Born in Bangor, Saskatchewan on June 16, 1929, Betty passed away peacefully on February 16, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Charles; daughter Sharon (Bill) Randell; son Murray (Doreen) Fairweather; her grandchildren: Brent (Kerry) Fairweather, Leslie (Todd) Stockdale, Christine (Greg) Pond, Jacqueline Randell (Rob) Smith, Judd (Sue) Randell and her precious great- grandchildren: Tysen, Kylie, Tayler, Cooper, and Robyn; her siblings: Gordon (Lenore) Jones, Pearl Fairweather, and Art (Jill) Jones; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniele and Lydia Jones, four sisters: Dylis, Joy, Ruby, Ethel, and her brother Newton. Betty lived the majority of her life as a "prairie"" girl until moving to Vernon with Charlie in 1993. An avid sports enthusiast, she especially loved to play softball, golf and curling. She represented Saskatchewan at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and twice as a skip in the Canadian Sr. Ladies Curling Championship. Betty loved spending summers in Waskesiu and for a time wintering in Arizona. She was a voracious reader and delighted in flower gardening. Most importantly, she was devoted to her husband and her family. She will always be remembered for her positive and cheery demeanour, her warm personality and her welcoming smile. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives have been touched knowing her. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Community Care and specifically to the nurses, care aids, and volunteers at Hospice House for their wonderful care, compassion and support. The Memorial Service will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made in memory of Betty Fairweather to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B. V1T 1S4.
