Ernest "Ernie" Steven Mamchur passed away unexpectedly on February 14, 2013 at the age of 77. Ernie will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Shirley; children Brent (Germaine) Mamchur, Sheryl (Ted) Ludyk, Janice (Kirby) Rutherford, Shawna (Brett) Crawford; grandchildren Allyssa Mamchur, Cara and Shaun Stadnichuk, Travis, Brennan and Megan Rutherford; great-grandson Ashton Stadnichuk; siblings Boris Mamchur, Deanna Hladun, Malvina Smandych, Philip Mamchur, Debbie Mamchur and their families. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Steven and Minnie Mamchur, and brother-in-law Lawrence Hladun. Ernie began working for the Saskatoon Fire Department on January 2, 1961, which was the job he always dreamed of having. He was with the department for 34 years, retiring at the rank of Captain. Ernie was an avid fisherman, curler, and hunter during his younger years. He enjoyed gathering with his friends at the local pub, watching Rider games, nature documentaries, and spending time with his much loved grandchildren. A Celebration of Ernie's Life will be held Thursday, February 21 at 2:00 pm at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre, 915 Acadia Drive. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20 at 7:00 pm.
