The life of a precious and most gracious lady, a caring Mother, Grandma and Baba, ended peacefully at the age of 93 on November 7, 2012.
Born March 10, 1919, Eva grew up in Wakaw, became a hairdresser, met and married Matt Luciuk, becoming a teacher's wife. In 1947, Matt and Eva moved to the farm of Jacob and Mary Michel near Rosetown where they farmed and raised their family. In 1980, they retired and moved into town.
Through the years Eva was active in the Glen Payne Ladies Club, Rosetown Royal Purple Lodge No. 175, Rosetown Cemetery Beautification Committee; a member of the Rosetown United Church; and with Matt, involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 66. She enjoyed over 50 years of friendship with the "birthday girls" and her coffee group.
Eva's hands were always busy: baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, painting and numerous other crafts. It was important that each new baby in her life received a "made with love" afghan.
Eva and Matt's pride in their Ukrainian heritage was instrumental in bringing others together for a traditional Christmas Eve supper for many years. Easter was a time to gather around the table where she taught her family the art of Ukrainian Easter eggs.
Left to cherish Eva's memory, her children: Gloria Winter, Donna (Bill) Imlach, Darlene (Len) Roy and David; grandchildren: Cindy Bettin, Stewart Winter, Darren (Cheryl) Frerichs, Lori (Chris Churchman) Imlach, Lisa (Brad) Chittick, Kenneth (Marci) Imlach; great-grandchildren: Nicholas Bettin, Edward Bettin, Tyson Kautzman, Camri Imlach, Mathew Frerichs, Kael Imlach, Parker Frerichs, Emma Chittick, Ksenya Churchman; sister-in-law Kay Kostyk and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Matt Luciuk; sisters: Anne (Steve) Kozak, Nellie (Joe) Redl, Rose (Jim) Burechailo, Betty (Ernie) Weixl; brother Ken (Shirley) Mohn; sisters-in-law: Mary (Nick) Haidy, Sandra (Sam) Kowbuz, Sophie (Mike) Baziuk, Pearl (Peter) Hryciuk, Mae (Peter) Baziuk; brothers-in-law: Michael (Phyllis) Luciuk, John Kostyk.
Funeral services were held on November 13, 2012, at Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating. Some of Eva's favourite music was provided by organist Brenda Hamilton, soloist Merla Walker and the Rosetown United Church Choir. Ushers were Eva's niece Judy Adair and nephews Larry Burechailo and Jim Burechailo. Honour Guard by the ladies of Royal Purple #175. Pallbearers were Eva's grandchildren. Donations to Rosetown Nursing Wing Activity Fund. Interment Lot 45A Plot 3, Roselawn Cemetery, Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Condolences may be sent to www.shanidarfuneralservices.com. Pierre A.
