1939 - 2013
It is with sadness that the family announces that the death of Gerald Schaan occurred peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 19th at the age of 73 at his residence in Saskatoon. Gerald is survived by his wife Mary Lou; his children Rosann (Kirk) Holmes, Shelly (Garnet) Schaan, Kevin (Lori) Schaan, Collin (Karee) Schaan; grandchildren Jamie (Trevor) Schaan, Kayla (George) Schaan, Spencer Schaan, Connor and Colton Holmes and Taylor Pozniak. He was predeceased by his parents Edna (Schendel) and George Schaan. Gerald was the only child of George and Edna. He was born on the Schaan homestead farm in the Landestrue District southwest of MacNutt, SK. Early in Gerald's life his parents moved to MacNutt where they were general store merchants for many years. Gerald completed his education at Concordia College in Edmonton, AB. He and Mary Lou were married in 1963 and they were blessed with four children. Gerald began his career in medical supply distribution in 1966 in Winnipeg, MB. He was later transferred to Saskatoon to open and manage a local distribution centre. In 1980, Gerald and Mary Lou purchased the Saskatoon division of this national company and Schaan Healthcare Products Inc. was formed. Today the business is family owned with all second generation family members involved in the daily operations of the company. Gerald was an active member of the Faith Lutheran Church and past board member of the Sherbrooke Community Centre. Dad gave generously to numerous foundations and charities over the years including the Children's Hospital Foundation, Sherbrooke Community Centre, and numerous other organizations whose mission was caring for people. Dad enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Blackstrap with his family especially his grand-kids. He loved to garden and build bird houses. His favorite pastime was visiting and he was a genuine conversationalist with anyone with an ear to bend. Dad's family was the most important thing to him. He enjoyed every opportunity to spend time together catching up on everyone's busy lives. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan or a charity of one's choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the care staff at Bayshore Home Health and to Dr. Calvin Wells for the care and friendship in the later part of Dad's life. Dad is now at peace with his Lord and Savior.

sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me
dwell in safety.
