Mrs. Gertruda (Wiebe) Janzen passed away November 10, 2012 in the Rosthern Union Hospital at the age of 98 years and five months. She leaves to mourn her husband of 72 years, Abram G. Janzen, 11 children: Gertrude de Kleine, Bill and Marlene Janzen, Peter and Telita Janzen, Helen and Rudy Baergen, Jess and Cliff Dueck, Abe and Kathy Janzen, George and Lynette Janzen, Mary and Irvin Loewen, Henry and Susan Janzen, Susan and Dwight Brucks, and Solomon Janzen; 32 grandchildren and 30 great- grandchildren; her sisters, Justina Peters in Bolivia and Maria Guenther in Warman, as well as her beloved brother Peter in Rosetown. She was predeceased by her parents, 9 siblings, an infant son in 1943, a son-in-law in 1993, and 3 grandchildren.
Gertruda was born in the village of Blumenheim, SK to Gertruda (Bueckert) and Wilhelm Wiebe, the sixth of thirteen children. Her father passed away when she was 18 years old. She assisted her mother and siblings through some difficult years by working as domestic help in the community for $5/month, as well as helping on the farm. After their marriage, she and Dad moved to a homestead on the South Saskatchewan River for a period of 8 years. When her mother and several siblings moved to Mexico in 1948, she and Dad moved back to her mother's farm in the village. They did dairy and mixed farming there for 60 years before retiring to Warman in 2008. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, followed closely by the plum trees her mother had planted in the village. This past September she cooked 8 quarts of plum jam from those trees.
We remain deeply grateful to the medical and nursing staff at the Rosthern Hospital for their understanding, compassionate care.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Neuanlage Grace Mennonite Church. Interment will take place at Neuanlage Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk's Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK. (306-232-5245, www.funksfuneralhome.ca)
