Hilda Peters
Our mother, Hilda Peters, of Saskatoon, Sask., was taken to her heavenly home on February 11, 2013 at the age of 89 years. She was born in Lowe Farm, Manitoba on February 1, 1924 to John and Margaret Funk and lived there during her childhood. She married Peter Peters of Steinbach in 1943 and they had 65 great years together. She leaves to mourn her six children: Steven (Ruth) Peters of Winnipeg; Carol (Gary) Giesbrecht, Lethbridge, AB; Gloria (Vic) Mensch of Lethbridge; Kathy (Rod) Alm of Saskatoon; Rick (Shirley) Peters of Winnipeg; and Virginia (Mark) Sedlacek of Calgary as well as 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, four siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant son, Robert, and the love of her life, Peter Peters. Her life as wife and mother took her from Steinbach, MB to Cross Lake, MB, Thompson, MB, Lost River, SK, and Carrot River, SK; in 1977 Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg where they resided until Dad's passing in 2008 at which time Mom moved to Bethany Manor in Saskatoon where she lived until her passing. To the day she went to glory, in her own quiet way, she exemplified the character and love of Christ to those around her. A recent example of this was cooking with her daughter, Kathy, for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies teams, as part of the ministry of Athletes in Action. Our thanks go out to Dr. Carol Klym, her family physician and the St. Paul Palliative Care staff. We really appreciated the compassionate care for mom of the nurses and doctors in her final days. A Viewing will take place at Bethany Manor, in Saskatoon on Wednesday, February 13 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. as well as prior to the funeral which will be held in Steinbach, MB on Thursday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church, 417 Hanover St, Steinbach. The burial will take place at Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
