Jim was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 25, 1946 to Bill and Doris Barak. Jim was a talented educator who loved teaching and working with his students. He was very interested in the study of the past because "to understand anything meant to begin with understanding its history". He was fiercely committed to thinking for oneself and as a young man, moved to Canada in protest of the American Intervention in the Vietnam War. In 1977 he married his beloved wife Louise Carlson in Saskatoon. Jim is survived by his wife, Louise Barak; parents Bill and Doris Barak; sisters Cheryl (Tom) Walker and Cathy (Steve) Rank; sisters-in-law Dianne Carlson (Ron Lefebvre) and Elaine Carlson, brother- in-law Doug Carlson (Beth Campbell); and nephews and nieces Scott (Sarah) Walker, Sherie (Ryan) Weaver and children Sean and Chloe, Lancia Lefebvre, Brendan Lefebvre, Holly Hudson and Kim Hudson; Christy Carson, Lisa Rouse, John Johnstone. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (East on 8th Street, first right past Briargate Rd) Saskatoon.
