SANDER, John Joseph
It is with great sadness and love that the family of John Joseph Sander announces his passing at the age of 73 years, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 27, 2012. John was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan to Wently and Julia Sander and grew up on the O.W. Martin farm. He attended the Spy Ridge School near Wilkie. Following his years at school, John worked on the farm with his father, later going on to work for ACME Plumbing in Saskatoon. In 1960 he moved back to Wilkie and was employed by Elders' Plumbing. In 1961 he switched careers and began buying grain for Searl Grain Co. in Wilkie, later moving to Donegal, SK. to fill the agent position there. In August of 1961, he was married and later became the father of three children, Vicki (1963), Darlene (1965), and Terry (1966). John would go on to buy grain for Federal Grain Ltd. in Prelate, SK, and following that, in 1974, for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Rosetown, SK, where he finished his career in the agriculture industry and retired. He continued living in Rosetown until his death. John was a kind and hard-working man who would do anything for anyone. He was well-liked by the many farmers whom he went out of his way to help in the grain elevators where he worked. A talented and creative individual, he could fix or build anything he was asked to attend to. John was especially skilled at carpentry and was known for his precise and detailed work. He designed and built playhouses and toys for his children and grandchildren, and unique dwellings for the animals he kept on the small acreages he would always seem to find. John loved animals and working with them on his small, hobby farms. One of his children's fondest memories was the year Santa Claus brought them two Shetland ponies! Inheriting his green thumb from his mother, Julia, John also enjoyed plants and gardening. He took great pride in his yard with all its shrubs, plants and many garden ornaments. John was a worker, and didn't often take time off, but when he did, he enjoyed going to his cabin in Cochin to fish and work in his yard there. His grandchildren remember going on their first fishing trip with Grandpa and catching their first fish with him. When they are together, they talk about happy times at the lake with Grandpa. His family will miss their wonderful dad, grandpa, and brother and the happy times they spent together. John was predeceased by parents Julia and Wently Sander. He is survived by his children: Vicki (Stan) Moore, Darlene (Trevor) Livingstone, and Terry(Margaret) Sander; grandchildren: Jenna, Brandon, Joelle (fiancé Mike), Tamara (Brian), Bryden, and Tianna; great-granddaughters: Quinn and Grace; his brother and sisters: Agatha (Rudy) Weber, Wilma (Glen) McLeod, Tony (Myrna) Sander; Sylvia (Joe St. Germaine), Elaine (Mike) Huber; and his many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial, a celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa's Parish in Rosetown, SK. Interment to follow at Rosetown Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Saskatoon SPCA Inc. 5028 Clarence Ave S, Grasswood, SK. S7T 1A7. Condolences may be sent to Pierre A. Charpentier entrusted with the arrangements.
