Leon, age 95, passed away peacefully at St. Ann's Home on Friday, March 1, 2013. Leon was born in Witchekan (Laventure) on August 13, 1917 to Leon and Fernande (nee Lafarchoux). The family moved in 1918 and settled on the family farm in St. Denis. Leon and Jeannette were married in Montreal on December 26, 1942. They had grown up together in the same community, went to the same school and church. They were always best of friends and loved the farming life. He enjoyed the hustle and bustle, the excitement of seeding and the harvesting seasons, the whole business end of it as well as the lifestyle. But he had quite severe allergies to grain and hay dusts... at times he felt quite miserable with these allergies, problems breathing and with rashes. Eventually, because of the allergies, he had to give up the farming life in 1979. Leon and Jeannette became supervisors for Shepherd Apartments in Saskatoon. They held that job for 11.5 years and both really enjoyed it. Leon was a very sociable man, and loved reunions with extended family and friends. He was young at heart and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to play cards, pool and shuffleboard. He had a great sense of humour and was well-liked by all he met. Leon is loved and remembered by his wife, Jeannette; children, Lilianne Denis (Barry), Marcel (Nelia), RoseAnne (Malcolm) Thorpe, George (Jane), Louise (Richard) Andre, Lionel, Suzanne (Phil) Rooke, Simone, Roger (Carol), Claudette Germain, Maurice (Carrie), Roland (Rita) and Gerald (Corrine); brother, Fernand (Cecile); 30 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. Leon was predeceased by his son, Raymond in infancy; brother, Louis (Laurette), Roger (Marianne), and Robert (Rachelle); sisters, Helene (Edgar) Detilleux, Reine (Herb) Schatz. The family would like to extend their heart-felt appreciation to St. Ann's Senior Citizen Village for all the kindness and loving care they showed to Leon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann's Home (2910 Louise Street, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L8). Vigil for Leon will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8th, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9th. Both services will be held at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church (1902 Munroe Avenue). Arrangements in care of John Schachtel - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200) www.mourningglory.ca
