Margaret Altwasser August 14, 1927 August 12, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret (Peggy) on Friday, August 12, 2011. Margaret is survived by her loving family. Her daughters Patricia (Richard) Schafer, Debra (Richard) Wildfong; son Martin (Sharon); grandchildren Annalee (Jeff), Kristin, (Jeff), Danielle and Russell; great grandchildren Josephine and Charlotte; her canine friends Lambert, Obi and Lola; Sisters Francis, Doris, Esther, Violet; brother Bill, as well as numerous extended family and close friends. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Annie and George Oshanek; brother Walter; sister Eunice; son Milton; and loving husband, Vernon. Margaret was born on the farm near Insinger, Saskatchewan. In 1951, she completed her training as a psychiatric nurse at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn. Margaret began her most important professional career as one of the first nurses at the Saskatoon Community Health Clinic and later went on to become the head of reception. In addition, she spent many sleepless nights as an on-call nurse for the Clinic. Margaret was a caring and thoughtful woman. Margaret and Vern enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Weyakwin. Their home and cottage were always open to family, friends and new acquaintances to enjoy their good company as well as Margaret's superb cooking. Margaret took pride in everything she did; from cooking, to her career and of course caring for her friends and family. Much of her life was devoted to helping others and spending time with her grandchildren. A service of remembrance will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church (1201 Broadway Ave. Saskatoon, SK.) at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the 5th and 7th floor at St. Paul's Hospital as well as the wonderful staff at Luther Heights Care Home. The family invites you to make memorial donations to the Saskatoon Community Health Clinic (455 2nd Ave. N, Saskatoon, SK.) or Augustana Lutheran Church (1201 Broadway Ave. Saskatoon, SK. S7H 2A4)
