The family of Michael Andrew Lukowich is sad to announce his passing from serious illness on December 13th, 2012 at G.R. Baker Hospital in Quesnel, BC.
Michael is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Ellie) of Quesnel B.C. and his brothers Edward, Leonard, and Morris, all of Calgary and two sisters, Louise and Sandra, of Saskatoon. He is also survived by a nephew, nieces and a network of extended family and friends throughout Western Canada.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Joe (1989) and Anne Lukowich (Prescesky) (2004) of Speers and later Saskatoon. He was also predeceased by his only child Jeffrey in 1993.
Mike grew up and attended school in Speers, Sask. In 1962 he skipped the Speers high school curling team that won the Canadian Dominion High School Curling Championship for Saskatchewan.
Michael was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan in 1967, Faculty of Education, and taught high school for many years in Delisle, Saskatchewan and in northern communities. In semi retirement he was a teacher on call for B.C. School District # 28 in Quesnel.
For many years Mike was the Branch Manager of the Buckerfield's store on Two Mile Flat in Quesnel, B.C.
Michael will be remembered for his soft spoken manner, his kindness, his sense of humor and his love of sport, especially golf and curling at which he excelled. Michael was also an enthusiastic coach/mentor in curling, golf, baseball, basketball and hockey.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Calgary, AB, on Saturday, January 12th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
A Reception and lunch will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church basement and we welcome family and friends to share their memories of Michael with all of us. Interment of ashes in Quesnel, B.C. will follow at a later date.
