BATEMAN, Philip Rowland
With great sadness the family announces the passing of Philip (Phil) on September 29th, 2012 age 89 at Sherbrooke Community Centre after many years of health problems. Phil enjoyed the outdoors, and was known for his friendly smile and the twinkle in his eyes. Phil was born in Ealing, England in 1923 and later entered the British Army from 1946 - 52. Phil immigrated to Canada in the late 50's where he began work at Bowman Brothers in Saskatoon. Phil met his future wife, Eileen, and on April 30th, 1960 they were married. In 1967 he started working at AA Murphy & Sons, this was followed by Phil managing their distribution company of records & tapes called Radel Racking. Phil was predeceased by his parents, John and Lydia Bateman (England) and twin brothers Harold (Ivy) and Eddie (Doris). Phil is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Eileen (nee Walker) Bateman; son Vernon Bateman (Shirley Garnet); granddaughters Breanna and Courtney; daughter Bonnie (Linden) Hood; granddaughters Brittany and Caylie; sister-in- law Jeanne (Ron) Jacobson of Penticton, BC; brother-in-law Ken (Florence) Walker of Sorrento BC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In 1984, Phil suffered multiple heart attacks and was forced to take early retirement. In 1990/91 he suffered crippling strokes and with his health gradually deteriorating he entered Long Term Care at Sherbrooke in 2010. The family would like to thank all the staff at Sherbrooke and a special thank you to the nurses and supporting staff on the fourth floor. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 5th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, first right past Briargate Rd.). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sherbrooke Community Centre Fourth Floor, 401 Acadia Dr. Saskatoon, SK S7H 2E7.
