Richard (Dick) Wert
June 13, 1922 - November 29, 2012
It is with profound sadness and love that the family of Dick Wert announces his passing at the age of 90 years. Dick was born to Ann and George Wert in Kelso, SK. He spent the majority of his growing up years in Valpariso, SK. And Star City, SK. Having learned telegraphy from his father, he was hired by the CNR as a telegraph operator in 1941. As his career proceeded he became a train dispatcher. In 1983, at the age of 62 he retired from that position. While he was the CNR agent operator in Langham, SK he was instrumental in the formation of the Langham Credit Union. He served as the Secretary Treasurer for the Credit Union, operating it out of the CNR station. After he retired from the CNR he began building cedar lawn furniture and turned this hobby into a lucrative business. In 1945, he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Radloff. With a family of 3 daughters they lived in several communities in Saskatchewan and finally settled in Saskatoon in 1971. In 1975, they fulfilled a lifelong dream and built a lake front cabin at Big Shell Lake. Many wonderful weekends were spent at the cabin with family, friends and FIREWORKS!! Dick had a wonderful laugh which we will never forget. He always had a joke or a story to tell which amused one and all. If you couldn't see Dick you could always hear him whistling. You knew he was busy and that everything was right with his world. Dick was predeceased by his father George, his mother Ann and his brother Lorne. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty, his daughters Lorna (Bob) Reimer, Margaret (Wayne) Kempton, Donna (Michael) Summerfeldt, his grandchildren Jerrilynn (Mike) Rebeyka, Jackie (Jeff) Hanrahan, Kurtis (Melanie) Reimer, Cara (Dave) Wihlidal, Charla (Dustin) Halstead, Gina (Brian) Doane, Michaela Summerfeldt and Benton Summerfeldt and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his sister Melba (Norman) Burgoyne, his sisters-in-law Maxine Ferguson, Kay Valentine, Inez Radloff, Bernice Radloff and Biggie Radloff, his cousins Gracie Anderson and Len Wert as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Dick's life will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Mayfair United Church with Rev. Deb Walker officiating. Memorial donations in Dick's name can be made to Myeloma Canada, P.O. Box 326, Kirkland, QC H9H 0A4. Arrangements have been entrusted to Penny Aadland of Acadia-McKague's Funeral Service (955-1600)
