HARA, Surindar
Surindar Singh Hara, aged 86, husband of Valerie Hara, son-in-law of Willmer & Rosella Willems, passed away peacefully at his home in India on the afternoon of December 26, 2013. Surindar was a pioneer in Agroforestry where at his farm in northern India he experimented and developed ever-increasing efficiencies of production. His vision and practices of agriculture are emulated regionally and internationally and drew visitors from forty countries to his farm. He had been with the FOA (United Nations) and the World Bank. He established the Surindar Hara Foundation (India) to enable and encourage disadvantaged children (most especially girls) from his village and surrounding villages to continue their education. Nurses, Engineers and Doctors are receiving scholarships from his Foundation. He was a larger than life figure in his rural village and remained non judgemental of religious and political views and because of these beliefs he was highly respected. Valerie, his loving wife of 26 years family and friends around the world shall miss him greatly.
