Thomas Jasieniuk
1922 - 2012
Thomas (Tom) Jasieniuk of Saskatoon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 15, 2012 at St. Paul's Hospital. He is survived by loving wife Rose (Belyk) of 60 years, children James (Sandy), Simon, Rebecca; Lynda (Joe), Nicole, Garrett; Richard (Lee), Michael, Adam; Patricia, daughter Teagan; and Tom's sister Helen. Tom was predeceased by his father Joseph and mother Maria, brothers John and Peter, sisters Evelyn, Anastasia, Stella and Ann. Tom was born on the family farm near Krydor, SK on May 15, 1922. After the death of his father in 1935, the family remained on the farm relying on hard work and their faith in God. Tom loved flying. After getting his pilot's wings in 1943 in the RCAF he was connected with flying for some 21 years with war time service and the City of Saskatoon 406 Reserve Squadron. His last two years of service were as Commanding Officer of the Squadron, retiring in 1964 with the rank of Wing Commander. Upon his return from the war Tom chose to pursue his education and received his pharmacy degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1950. He was proprietor of Elik's Drug Store and Medicine Company from 1963 to 1976. He then worked as a relief pharmacist throughout Saskatoon and Saskatchewan spending the majority of his time at Nordon Drugs eventually fully retiring at the age of 75. Tom was involved in sports of all kinds, from minor hockey to being a board member of the Saskatoon Senior Quakers Hockey Club. He was a founding member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church serving on Parish Council and took a leadership role on many church committees. Tom enjoyed many hobbies including 45 years of wine and sausage making, building willow and other furniture, bee keeping, constructing a trout pond and hobby fishing, fur tanning, gardening, establishing orchards, boat building, home renovating and many other endeavours. Family always came first especially in later years devoting even more time to his children and grandchildren. He believed that you could accomplish anything if you set your mind to it and had faith in God. He was very generous in sharing his knowledge and experiences with others and his legacy of love and compassion will live on. A prayer vigil will take place on Tuesday evening on November 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home (4th Avenue and 25 Street). Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (10 Street and Munroe Avenue). In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
