Zachary Semenoff
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of our youngest son, Zachary Val Semenoff, at the age of 16 years. The world has lost a great light. Zach is survived by his parents, Susan Reschny and Jan Semenoff, older brothers, Alex and Ben, grandparents, Nik and Marygrace Semenoff, and Cathy and Elmer Reschny, and his much beloved extended family and friends (and Cheech, his Chinchilla). Zach's life was rich for one so young. He was an excellent musician whose cello produced a rich resonance in our home that filled us with joy and awe. He also played many other instruments, including guitar, bass, oboe, and recorder. His talent and quirky sense of humour united when Zach learned to play two recorders simultaneously, playing both the harmony and the melody (sometimes using his nose). His love of music was apparent to all of his friends, who have commented on his eclectic taste and brilliant choices. Although he struggled with addiction, Zach had an innocent perspective on life. He collected stuffed animals and loved small furry creatures of all kinds. One of his favorite pastimes was viewing silly antics and cute fuzzy animals on the Internet. Zach was intelligent, a gifted athlete and a great cook. Everyone enjoyed his chicken and dumplings, his gourmet grilled cheese and clubhouse sandwiches, and his fruit smoothies. Zach enriched our lives with his energy, his positive focus, and his effervescent charm. Those who knew Zach appreciated his generosity and his enthusiasm for life. He shared his joy with others, smiling brightly, especially when those around him needed it the most. A Celebration of Zach's Life will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, 114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon on Wednesday, August 28th at 4:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to post condolences or messages of remembrance on Facebook that may be read at the celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family invites a donation to the Saskatoon Catholic School Foundation Zachary Semenoff Music Scholarship Fund.
