It is with sadness that Arlene's family announces her passing, peacefully and in the arms of her children, at St. Paul's Hospital on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the age of 92 years. Arlene is lovingly remembered by her three children and their spouses: Sheree and Randy Selin of The Woodlands, Texas; Diane and Dale Hughes of Swift Current; and Randy and Marlene Boyer of Saskatoon. She adored her six grandchildren and will be missed by: Pat (Megan) Selin; Trevor Selin; Brianne (Matt) Wiebe; Lauren Boyer, Monica Boyer, and Jordan Hughes. She also leaves her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who were so important in her life. Arlene was predeceased by her parents Bertha and Andrew Swendseid, her sisters Ruth Hindle and Agnes Taxter, her brother Norman Swendseid and her husband Rod. Arlene was born in Trossachs, SK and began her working career at Saskatchewan Government Telephones in Weyburn. She later moved to Watrous as Chief Operator. She married Rod Boyer in 1954 and after residing in Watrous, Carmel and Ridgedale, the family moved to Kenaston in 1964 where she worked at the Co- op. In 1974 they moved to Saskatoon and she resumed working for SaskTel until her retirement in 1986. She resided in the Jan Ann apartments on 7th Street for more than 30 years. Her door was always open to family and her many friends who came to enjoy her hospitality, delicious meals and baked treats. In 2006, she moved to Primrose Chateau so she could live closer to Randy and Marlene. She spent seven comfortable years there but declining health required her to move to a personal care home in July 2013 where she resided until her passing. The family wishes to thank the staff of 5th floor Medicine at St. Paul's Hospital, Rev. Cathy Coates of the pastoral care team, Betty Sandulak and her kind and caring staff, as well as Dr. Harrington and her long time physician, Dr. Paul Taillon. In keeping with Mom's wishes, a Celebration of her Life is planned for Saturday, May 10, 2014. Please watch the Star Phoenix for additional information closer to the date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Arlene's memory to The Salvation Army (339 Avenue C South, Saskatoon, SK S7M 1N5). Family and friends may send online condolences from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Charmaine Menard.
