DONOHUE, Geraldine Anne (Geri)
Passed away at the age of 75, of a heart attack on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the Southlake Regional Health Centre, in Newmarket. Geri was born in Toronto, Ontario, on June 28, 1938 to John and Myrtle Ledingham. She was an only child. Her happy childhood was spent in Hornepayne, Ontario, and Capreol, Ontario, where she moved at age 11. Upon completion of high school, Geri entered the Ottawa Civic School of Nursing in 1955, and graduated in June 1958. She obtained her Registered Nurses Certificate. She met James Wilbert Donohue in 1954, and they were married in 1958 in Ottawa, Ontario, and subsequently moved to Elliot Lake where they spent six happy years before relocating to Esterhazy, Saskatchewan for one year, then Saskatoon for 29 years. She and Wilbert retired to Elliot Lake in May 1994. Geri was predeceased by husband, James Wilbert, and two sons, John Lawrence (infant son) and Grant Edward. Geri relocated to King City, Ontario in 2012, several years after her husband, James Wilbert Donohue's passing. Geri is survived by sons, Michael James (Birgit) of Petawawa, Gregory Arthur (Rachel) of King City; grandchildren, Melanie Thompson (Bruce), Jennifer Donohue, both of Pembroke; Ryan Donohue, Sofia Donohue, both of King City; and great-grandchildren, Caleb, Leah, Naomi, Shayla; along with many friends.While in the Elliot Lake area, Geri worked as a Nurse at St. Joseph's General Hospital. In Saskatoon, Geri attended the University of Saskatchewan, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSP) in 1968. Geri was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy from 1974 - 1989, at the University of Saskatchewan, and then a practising Pharmacist from 1989 - 1994 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Upon relocating back to Elliot Lake in 1994, Geri was a practising Pharmacist from 1994, until her retirement in 1996. While in Elliot Lake, Geri was an active member of the Cambrian Investment Club, She served on the City of Elliot Lake Committee Of Adjustment, and she served on the St. Joseph's General Hospital Board of Trustees. Geri had a very busy, and active life. While raising 3 children, she attended University, and obtained a BSP degree in honours, and went on to teach at the very University she graduated from. Geri led a full and eventful life, always with a great sense of humour. She was a very kind, and caring mother, a woman of great wisdom, and incredible insight. Everyone who had the good fortune of knowing her will miss her dearly. A Memorial Service celebrating Geri's life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mackenzie Health Foundation, 10 Trench Street, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 4Z3.
