William 'Bill' Henry Penson
October 28, 1914 – June 11, 2014
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that the family of William 'Bill' Penson announces his passing on June 11, 2014 at Sherbrooke Community Centre where he had resided since 2009. Dad was born in Reston, Manitoba, the middle child of Charles and Bridget (McQuade) Penson. In 1943 while dad was working as a truck driver in Dawson Creek, BC he suffered major hearing loss caused by a dynamite blast. Apparently a shed storing 60 cases of dynamite caught fire and exploded resulting in many homes and buildings being demolished in the town. Dad was able to recount explicit details of this tragedy even up to a week prior to his passing. In March 1943 dad married Edna (McDonald) Porrelli and became stepfather to Wayne. A few years later I, (Penny) was born in Dawson Creek and after dad and mom moved back to Saskatoon my sister, Jollean (Wilma), was born two years later. In the 1960s dad took a refresher course at Kelsey Institute to upgrade his carpentry trade and worked as a rough carpenter for many years. Dad was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother Fredrick in 1985 and his older sister Kathleen in 1998. Dad was also predeceased by his wife, Edna, and son-in-law Eugene Cooper, both in 1993 as well as a great- grandson in 2013 and a great-grandson in 2014. Left to mourn dad's passing are daughters Penny/Darlyne Cooper, Jollean/ Wilma Calvert, and stepson Wayne (Ada) Porrelli, seven grandchildren, four step- grandchildren, as well as many great- grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply, and nieces and nephews. He was always so happy when the young ones came to visit him at Sherbrooke. We will all miss him dearly. The family would like to thank the staff on second floor, especially to Carrie, Pat, and Heather for the utmost care given to dad at Sherbrooke. Funeral Service will be held at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North) at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in memory of Bill to Sherbrooke Community Centre. To send online condolences, visit www.parkfuneral.ca "Obituaries & Tributes". Arrangements entrusted to Greg Lalach, Park Funeral Chapel, 306.244.2103.
