Roy was given God's final blessing early Thursday morning at home, after a long hard fight with lung cancer and many other health issues. Left to remember him with love, a few tears and much laughter are his wife of 47 years Caroline; his sons: Douglas, Daryl (Tara) and Dana; one grandchild, the light of his life, Jessica; his sisters: Pat Cone and Marie (Ron) Thomson; sisters-in-law: Jean Radford and Carol Radford; brothers-in-law: Angus Speedie, Mel Woods; Caroline's sisters: Evelyn Jackson and Peg Patterson; brother Jack (Louise) Thomson; brother-in- law John Cline; and many nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents George and Pearl; brothers: Bill (Rose), Bob and Frank; sisters: Hazel Woods, Gwen McKee, Connie Speedie, Ethel (Stewart) McEachern; and brother-in-law Albert Cone; Caroline's sister Ann Cline; brother Douglas (Janet) Thomson; and brother-in-law Norman Patterson. A life changing job clerking in his brother-in-law's free trader store brought him to Big Trout Lake in Northern Ontario where he met and then married Caroline, and they began their Centennial project. Later when Douglas was young, they moved to Saskatoon. For a while Roy owned a small corner store, then for the remainder of his working career, he worked at the City Transit in the bus barns. Retirement was enjoyed working around the house and yard, playing cards with friends, fixing the car, and visiting friends and relatives. Special thanks to the Home Care ladies and nurses who gave such wonderful care, Donalda, Jackie and Marlene in particular. Thanks also to all my wonderful quilting ladies who did so many kindnesses for us over the last years of Roy's illness. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (3572 33rd St. W.).
