Christina Leona Brucks
May 5, 1916 – July 16, 2014
Christina (Christine) passed away peacefully at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Sunnyside Adventist Care Center at the age of 98 years with her family at her side. She was born to Wallace and Ada Elmhirst on May 5, 1916 on a farm just south of Carberry, Manitoba. Her employment as a secretary for the Manitoba-Saskatchewan conference of Seventh-day Adventists led to her meeting a handsome William (Bill) Brucks in 1945 whom she married on September 20, 1948. Her employment paused for several years to raise two children Janet and Allen whom she home schooled prior to their attending the church school in Saskatoon. Her employment resumed, at Sunnyside Nursing Home, once both children moved to Canadian Union College, in Alberta, to complete high school. Christine enjoyed letter writing and kept in close contact with many friends and relatives. She also enjoyed swimming and taught lessons at summer camp in Manitoba. Music was important to her and she ensured her children explored their musical abilities through piano, trumpet and drum lessons. She had been baptized into the Adventist church at the age of 23 and with her husband remained an active and loyal member throughout her life. Her wish was that all her family would live close to the Lord. Christine and Bill also enjoyed many things in common and where they differed they complemented each other. Together they shared a love of camping, bird watching, travel, family and gardening. When grandchildren arrived Christine spent many joyful hours with both Brennan and Jesscya. She always maintained that their visits rejuvenated her and she loved to recount their charming ways and cute sayings to anyone who would listen! She was predeceased by her husband Bill, four brothers Phillip, Percy, Norman, and Bill, and two sisters, Addie and Jean. Christina is lovingly remembered by her daughter Janet Marcoux, son Allen (Susan), two grandchildren Brennan and Jessyca and their father Dave Marcoux, and many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances. Christine lived a long full life and never lost her zest for living. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Pinehouse Drive Seventh Day Adventist Church (327 Pinehouse Dr., Saskatoon). Interment will take place in the Carson Cemetery, near Hepburn, SK. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. Memorial donations in Christina's memory may be made to ADRA Canada and would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be sent to Arrangements are entrusted to the SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, (306)244-5577.
