February 16, 1946 - August 3, 2014
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Anson F.A. Smith (Smitty). Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, he spent his early life with his mother Bernice Smith and father Anson Smith Senior, siblings Grace Johnson, Ronald Smith, Wilfred and Lyla, extended family with many other siblings, and his nieces and nephews whom he loved. After spending some time working construction, he started his long and illustrious career in mining. This took him all over the world, from Africa to South America, Asia, Russia, all over North America, and Greenland. Though Smitty was a world traveller, his heart was always at home. He loved his horses, renovating his house, shop and barn, and being helpful for his neighbours, friends and family. Predeceased by his wife Mary Anne (Radchenko) of over 25 years, Smitty leaves behind three children, Leland, Chris (Jackie) and Laura (Geoff), as well as four grandchildren, Lily, Duncan, Alex and Dayton. Smitty will always be remembered for his stories of things that happened throughout his life and the places that he has been. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Martens Warman Funeral Home, 402 Central Street W, Warman, SK. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Saskatoon SPCA, 5028 Clarence Avenue S., Saskatoon, Sk. S7T 1A7, (306) 374-7387, to support Anson's love of animals and generous nature. Arrangements entrusted to MARTENS WARMAN FUNERAL HOME (306-934-4888).
