Irene Evans
March 21, 1922 – August 18, 2014
It is with great sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of Irene, but she did not go alone for part of us went with her. She passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 92 years. Irene was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth, father John, and husband George Evans; brothers Jim Maalerud, Scotty Maalerud; sisters Margaret Stanek, Kay Turnbull and second husband Don Brown. Irene is survived by her brother Bob Maalerud and sister Evelyn Vindeg; sons Dennis Evans (Shiela), Tyler Evans (Michelle Wilm), Lauren Sulz (Jason Sulz) and Nora, Glenn Evans (Bev), Shannon Evans, Adam Evans (Breanna Wist); her stepson Greg (Jane) Brown and family; stepdaughter Deana (Dave) Dawson and family; and many other nieces and nephews. Irene was born and raised in White Bear, Saskatchewan on March 21, 1922 to John and Elizabeth Maalerud. She moved to Saskatoon in 1939 to attend Saskatoon Business College. Irene then went to work at the Dairy Pool until 1951. Irene and George were married April 21, 1945 and her first son Dennis was born in 1951. She then became a full time wife, mother and homemaker. Glenn was born March 31, 1954. George passed away in 1983.On March 19, 1988 she married Don Brown. Irene led a very active and fulfilling life. She taught Sunday school, helped at the Food Bank, was on Holiday Park golf committees for over 20 years and several bowling clubs. She loved to dance, down hill ski, and fish. Irene enjoyed being at Jackfish Lake with her family and friends. Attending her grandchildren's sporting and other events was very important to her. She enjoyed having coffee with friends at Market Mall , playing bingo, golfing or simply visiting. Irene enjoyed Holidays and Sunday suppers with her family. In Irene's memory donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society. A Celebration of Irene's life will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home.
