RAE AKISTER 1921 2011 On Saturday, November 26, 2011, beloved wife of Roi Akister passed away at the age of 90 years. She will be sadly missed by her husband of sixty-nine years and her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharie (Richard) Babonich and Lorill (Jim) Chobotuk. She was an extra special Grandma to her five grandchildren and later Great-Grandma to six Great-Grandchildren, Kory (Audrey) Babonich, Maddox and Jaxon; Ryan (Jenn) Babonich, Quinn and Jack; Amber (Ryan) Blais, Sammy and Greta; Alison (Graham) Yarwood; Tara Chobotuk and Evan Bianco. They will all miss her dearly. Rae was born in 1921 to Karoline and John Bjorgan and raised in Demaine, SK. Rae and Roi were married in 1942 and resided in White Bear, SK where they raised their family. They moved to Elrose, SK in 1979 and with a love of travel had many great trips often joined by Rae's sister Edna and her husband Al. Rae was noted not only for being a loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma but also for her many artistic talents. She grew spectacular gardens every year (often helped by Roi), she was an accomplished painter, potter, seamstress and crocheted and knitted many treasures for everyone in the family. Rae was a wonderful cook and her and Roi loved to entertain their family even as it grew to 20 people. As soon as gardening season was over, Rae started her Christmas baking (also with some help from Roi!) which included many special Norwegian treats. Every year she gave away huge boxes of Christmas goodies to each of the families as well as giving away her specialties to many friends and neighbors. She had a wonderful life and that is how her family and friends will remember her. She is survived by her immediate family as well as her sister Edna (Al) Chapman and sister-in-law Karel Andre and numerous nieces and nephews. Honoring the wishes of Rae and Roi, there will not be a Memorial Service, rather a private family gathering to celebrate her life. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at the Rosetown Hospital as well as the nurses and doctors at the St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon who provided caring and compassionate care. We also want to thank the staff of Clements Rosetown Funeral Home for their support and understanding at this time. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Elrose Health Center or to a charity of your choice. Clements Rosetown Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
