1919 - 2012
Archie passed away peacefully at age 92, with Clara and family by his side at St. Paul's Hospital, in Saskatoon, on October 3, 2012. Archie is survived by Clara (Coakwell), his loving wife of 65 years, son Barry (Becky), daughters Marlene (Gary), Judy (Kim), Janice (Dean); grandchildren Arlene (Andy), Kent (Jamie), Dan, Lindsay, Kyla (Ryan), Chris (Jennifer), Kimberly, Jeremy, Kevin, Amanda; great grandchildren Kelsey, Cailey, Jaycee, Alexys, Nathaniel, Kalyn, and Carsen. Archie was predeceased by his father and mother Arnold and Flora McLellan; twin sisters and brothers-in-law Evelyn and Colin Henderson, Jean and Doug Varty, niece Arlene Henderson; sisters-in-law Faye Coakwell, Joyce Walker, Alice and husband Roy Thompson; brother-in-law Norman and wife Dorothy Coakwell and nephew Ron Coakwell. Archie was born on December 8, 1919 on the family farm south of Conquest and was raised there until the family moved to Dinsmore in 1936. Archie worked in his father's machine shop until joining the RCAF. He served for four years during the second World War, until returning home early to resume the family business, due to his father's illness. Archie married the love of his life, Clara (Coakwell) on October 2, 1947. They enjoyed 65 years together. Archie and Clara raised their family in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan. While living in Dinsmore, Archie was involved in the Legion, Masonic Lodge and many sporting events. He served on town council and as fire chief for many years. Archie retired from his John Deere dealership in 1975 at which time he and Clara moved to Saskatoon, where they have since resided. Archie and Clara enjoyed many friendships, especially the lifelong friendship of Grace and Bill Davidson. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 4:00 pm at the Saskatoon Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Terry Simonson. Memorial donations in Archie's name may be made to the Dinsmore Memorial Arena at the Dinsmore United Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home. Ph 244-5577.
