JOAN BAIN Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Oct. 13, 2012.
Joan Bain
1924 - 2012
It is with sadness we announce the death of Joan Bain on October 3, 2012. She passed away at the Warman Special Care Home. She is sadly missed by her daughters, Donna (Ron) Etcheverry of Saskatoon and Marilyn Bain of Chilliwack; also by sister Ann (Bill) Coward of Lloydminster; brother Ron (Maxine) Grasley of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband Jack, her mother Thelma Grasley and sister Marian Rowe. Joan was born, the oldest of 4 children, in Outlook and raised in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan. After graduation, Joan moved to Regina to attend business college and worked in the Royal Bank. She met Jack when he was working for the PFRA as an engineering student. They married in 1946 and moved north to buy a country general store in Red Cross which was in a remote area north of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Jack died a few days after their 25th wedding anniversary. Joan maintained the family business that she and Jack had built together for another 16 years. She continued to carry on with the expansion of the business to a lake resort in Bronson Lake Forest Preserve at Little Fishing Lake. Joan's life was her business, her home was the store. There was nothing she liked better than standing behind the counter discussing the issues of the day with her customers. Joan was a business person, a friend and a confidant. As she lived in a remote area, she grew to love and respect nature just as she loved all the pets that came to live with her. Joan sold the store in 1987 and retired in her home at the lake. She moved to Saskatoon and lived in her own home until 2005; she then moved to the Franklin Retirement Home in downtown Saskatoon. In August 2011, she moved to the Warman Special Care Home. The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care, compassion and comfort she received during her last year. At Joan's request there will be no funeral. Interment and memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements and cremation were in care of Cherished Memories Funeral Services.

I saw your Mom almost every day as l attended school there and would stop in at the store and picked up a few things we needed at home. Your mom and Dad were wonderful people. My sister Ludy Smith filled me in to-day with the gathering there in remembrance of your Mom. Wish l could of been there.
my best wishes for the future go out to you, Donna and Maralyn.
Take care.
