April 27, 1910 - November 4, 2012
Vivian Katherine Howard passed away November 4, 2012 at the age of 102 years in Saskatoon. She was born near Eyebrow, and farmed with her husband of 49 years, Edwin Westlund, outside of Brownlee. They raised two girls and enjoyed many camping and fishing trips. Large dinners for family and friends were common at their home as were card games of '31, '99, Smear, Whist and Cribbage. Like many farm women, Vivian had a large vegetable garden but her passions were a beautiful flower garden and bird watching. After Edwin passed (1978), Vivian married Earl Howard and enjoyed 10 years of laughter and travelling before he too passed away. In 1994, Vivian moved from Moose Jaw to Luther Tower in Saskatoon where she lived for 12 years. She kept busy with quilting, knitting and crafts for the family. In 2010 when Vivian marked her 100th birthday, many family members and friends gathered to celebrate her long life with fond remembrances. Born in 1910, she was the last surviving sibling from a family of 10 children. She was a strong, healthy woman who had never been in hospital until the last few days of her life. Vivian was predeceased by Edwin Westlund, Earl Howard and both her daughters, Judith Westlund and Phyllis Walker. Vivian is survived by son-in-law, Vic Walker; granddaughters, Judy Walker (Ron Bigsby) and Sandy Nordstrum (Dennis); and great grandchildren, Adam, Steven, Alexander and Cynthia. Thanks go out to the caring staff at Marg's Care Home where Vivian lived for the past 6 years. Interment will be at the cemetery in Brownlee, SK (at a later date).
