STANG, Father Robert
Father Robert Stang, OMI, passed away on January 12, 2013, at his home at St. Mary's Residence in Battleford, SK. Father Stang was born on September 14, 1935, in Macklin, SK, to Clara (Gartner) and Joseph Stang. He entered the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at St. Norbert, MB, professing his First Vows on October 1, 1957. His scholasticate years were spent at St. Charles Scholasticate, Battleford, SK, and on May 28, 1964, Father Stang was ordained to the priesthood in North Battleford, SK.
Father Bob's forty-eight years as a priest was given to parish/pastoral work in the following places: Vancouver, Winnipeg, Regina, Makwa, Barthel, Loon Lake, St. Walburg, Paradise Hill, Wilkie, Fox Valley, Liebenthal, Richmound, Burstall, Pierceland and Goodsoil. Father Bob's caring and gentle ways were much appreciated wherever he ministered. His caring extended to the birds and other wild life. In his younger days he played music in the local band. He also enjoyed sports, performing to a degree of excellence that delighted his parishioners.
Father Stang is survived by his brother Oblates (OMI Lacombe Canada, Saskatchewan District Community); his brothers Frank (Magdalen), Joe (Beatrice), Mike (Isabella), Tom (Cecile), Larry (Frances); his sisters Victoria Stang, Dorothy Hagel, Jeannette (Leonard) Stang; his sisters-in-law Katie Stang and Maureen Stang. Father Stang is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Clara; his brothers Herman (Rose), Benedict, George, Alex, Arthur; his sisters Josephine (Joseph) Rissling, Catherine Stang, Pauline Stang; his brother-in-law Tony Hagel, his sister–in-law Dianna Stang. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 16, at 2:00 pm, at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, Battleford, SK, Father Richard Doll, OMI, presiding. Interment will be at St. Charles Oblate Cemetery in Battleford, SK. A lunch will be served following the funeral. Arrangements are entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.
