Mervin Lorne Odin Mortenson

Mervin Lorne Odin Mortenson passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Luther Care Home. He is survived by his four children Diana Mortenson, Sandra (Tony) Kurtenbach, Wanda DelleCurti and Donna Mortenson; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nettie Guttormson and Loretta (George) Morin; one brother, Loyal (Blanche) Mortenson; and one sister in-law Merle Mortenson. He was predeceased by his wife Elwanda Faye Mortenson; his parents Albin and Ida Mortenson; one brother Ardien; one sister Mildred Larson; two brothers in-law, Pat Larson and Telford Guttormson; and his wife's parents: Evan and Frances Davies. He was born on a farm near Spalding, Saskatchewan and was the second youngest of six children. He met Faye in Spalding and they were married April 22, 1960 in Melfort, Saskatchewan. They began raising their family in Spalding then moved to Saskatoon in 1964. Mervin worked at Saskatoon Transit System from May 31, 1965 to January 4, 1992. Mervin and Faye had a very happy and loving marriage until her tragic death on April 20, 1988, but she remained the love of his life. Mervin loved to spend time with his family camping and fishing at different lakes in Saskatchewan. Mervin was on a bowling league for years and won many trophies. As he got older he enjoyed working on puzzles and playing card games during his free time, and also loved to do woodwork and yard work. In 2010 Mervin moved into Sunshine Haven Care Home and in March 2011 he moved into Luthercare Home and was lovingly cared for by the staff at both residences. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon). Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society (1405 Faulkner Cres., Saskatoon, SK S7L 3R5). Arrangements are entrusted to Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre 955-1600.
