CHAN, Chui Lin
February 18, 1926 - May 5, 2013
Chan, Chui Lin passed away peacefully at Saskatoon's St. Paul's Hospital on Sunday, May 5th, 2013, at the age of 90 years old. She passed her final moments surrounded by her loving sons, daughters, and grandchildren at her bedside. Chui Lin was born on February 18th, 1926 in the rural community of Taishan in the Guangdong Province of China. She later moved to Hong Kong where she raised her six children, two daughters and four sons. She is fondly remembered as a determined and devoted mother. Supporting her family by any means possible, Chui Lin worked tirelessly hand-weaving bamboo chairs and sewing garments for local factories. In 1982, Chui Lin immigrated to Canada with her Husband and children, Chan Hung Tim, Chan Kai Kwong and Chan Mei Ngor. Living with her son and daughter-in-law, Yuen Kwong and Fung Yuk in Carrot River, Chui Lin cared for the well-being of her children as well as helping to bring up her grandchildren, Jennifer and Albe. After 8 years, Chui Lin moved to Saskatoon to reside with her eldest son, Ying Kwong and his family whom had all recently immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong. For the next 23 years, Chui Lin was integral in the caregiving of her grandchildren Ronald, Steve, and Maggie. She provided them with unconditional love and support throughout their transition to Canada and into adulthood. Chui Lin was not afforded a formal education as a child due to the hardships of World War II. Her greatest accomplishments however, her children and grandchildren, are a testament to the power of one's love for her family and dedication to their well-being. The legacy that she leaves behind is priceless as Chui Lin demonstrated that kindness and compassion are not traits of the weak, but embodied only in the strongest of individuals. We all hold Chui Lin in a special place in our hearts, and her legacy lives on in those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her love. Chui Lin was predeceased by her husband Chan Hung Tim (2007/03/13) and is survived by her sons, daughters, and their respective families: daughter Chan Mei Ying, son-in-law Yim Kwok Kwong, grandchildren Yim Kai Chong, and Yim Kai Chung; son Chan Ying Kwong, daughter-in-law Michelle Chan, grandchildren Ronald, Steve, and Maggie, Ronald's wife Cynthia, great-grandchildren Joffrey and Nicole, and Steve's fiancé Chloe; son Chan Yuen Kwong, daughter-in-law Chan Fung Yuk, grandchildren Jennifer and Albe, and Jennifer's husband Andrew Barnes; son Chan Mi Kong, daughter-in-law Leung Kwok Kwan, grandchildren Chan Cheuk Chi and Chan Shing Hang; son Chan Kai Kwong, daughter-in-law Yung Shui Ying, and grandson Chan Tze Lok; daughter Chan Mei Ngor, and grandson Coby Yung.
