• "I am the nephew of this man through marraige. It saddens me..."

Jacob Steckler passed away peacefully on January 17, 2014. He is predeceased by his son, Robert Joseph in 2004, and four of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Susan; his daughters, Linda (Randy) Bullock and Betty (Terry) McKay; grandsons, Trevor and David (Emma) Bullock; granddaughters, Kim and Stephanie McKay; great grandsons, Michael and Josh Bullock; sisters, Anita Sidlar, Sally Billings and Ann (Nick) Pickunyk, brother Robert (Judy) and many nieces and nephews. Jacob (Jake to his wife and Jack to his friends) was born in Allan, Saskatchewan where he met and married Susan Senger in 1946. He spent most of his working life in the military, starting in 1943, when he fought in Europe during the Second World War. After the war, he farmed and owned a grocery store, before he joined the Air force in 1952. He served on bases in Alberta and Manitoba, and travelled North America with the Golden Centennaires in 1967. He retired from the service in 1975, and spent the next years farming in Thorhild, Alberta until he finally retired in 1992. Jacob and Susan moved to Moose Jaw in 2002. Jacob was a skilled carpenter and spent many hours in his workshop. He was very talented and self-taught. He built everything from houses, to camper trailers, to boats and to many pieces of fine furniture. He was also an avid boater, fisherman and camper. Over the years he and Susan enjoyed camping in the trailers that he built and in their later years travelling extensively with their 5th wheel in tow. They also took many trips together, including to Arizona, England, Hawaii and the east coast of Canada. Jacob was a wonderful husband and a very caring father and grandfather. He leaves behind many happy memories. The family would like to thank his caregivers at Guardian Grove and St. Vincent's in Providence Place. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 1064 Third Ave. N.W., on Tuesday January 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Father Rick Krofchek will be the presiding celebrant.
