Joseph Edward McKain CAMDEN - Joseph Edward McKain, 71, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his mother, Edith Parler McKain, his father, Joseph Edward McKain, Sr. of Camden, and his sister, Dr. Ann Elizabeth McKain of Atlanta, GA. Surviving are his three children, Joseph Patrick McKain (Gray) of Columbia, Mary Heather Moore (Brook) of Columbia, and Elizabeth McKain Nash (Chuck) of Camden, and ten grandchildren. Joe was a loving father and grandfather who cared greatly for the needs of others. His positive outlook and unselfish personality were admired by many. Joe considered his work with the homeless to be his ministry, volunteering his time to several organizations serving those in need throughout North and South Carolina. He was a member of Fairfield Mountains Chapel in Lake Lure, NC, where he found great comfort and purpose with his church family, singing in the choir. Joe was proud of his service to his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, Joe pursued his love for the game of golf, attending the PGA Golf Professionals School in Dunedin, FL. He loved both teaching and competing in the sport and he held a special place in his heart for his home course, Camden Country Club, where he was a 12-time club champion. Joe eventually entered the insurance industry and spent 20 plus years as an Agent, District Manager, and Regional Director for Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7th in Lake Lure, NC, at Fairfield Mountains Chapel Church, with Rev. Everette Chapman presiding. Memorials may be made to Fairfield Mountains Chapel, 1384 Buffalo Creek Road, Lake Lure, NC 28746. Interment will be held at a later date in Quaker Cemetery in Camden, SC. Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the McKain family by visiting www.kornegayfuneral.com.
