Joy Jones BATESBURG - Joy Jones, 75, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, in the Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry Brunson officiating. Mrs. Jones was born in Batesburg, SC, daughter of the late Turner Joseph and Carrie Mae Miller Westmoreland. She was married to the late Gene Jones. She was a member of Celebration Church in Batesburg. Surviving are her sons, Terrell (Tammie) Jones, Kent (Kathy) Jones, Mike Jones (John Speer); grandchildren, Farrah Jones, Chris Jones; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Joshua Jones, Leora Murphy; stepgrandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Murphy; and sister, Charlotte Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Jones; great-granddaughter, Ashleigh Faith Jones; brother, Franklin Jones; and sister, Gloria Clamp. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at .

Johnson Jr., James Thayer "Jim" - Knoxville  
James "Jim" Thayer Johnson Jr. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - James Thayer "Jim" Johnson, Jr., age 69, of Knoxville, TN, passed away in Duke Medical Center Hospice, June 1, 2016. He was born and raised in Batesburg, SC. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a lifelong, avid Gamecock fan. Jim served as division manager for RJR/Nabisco in Orlando, FL, and Knoxville, TN. After early retirement, he participated in various mission and benevolent activities. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church Bearden where he served as deacon and on various committees. He was a volunteer worker, advisory board member and chief fund raiser for Appalachian Outreach, a ministry of Carson Newman University. He and his wife, Phyllis, were active in Christian Hospitality Network, a missionary care organization. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thayer and Jimmie Lee Johnson, and survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis, and son, James III (Shannon) of Baltimore, MD. There will be a memorial service June 25, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg, SC. Family will receive friends following the service.
