Mr. Steigner was born November 30, 1918 in Germantown, PA and passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Mr. Steigner was a son of the late Marcus C. Steigner and Caroline Potts Steigner. Mr. Steigner was a 1938 graduate of Germantown Academy and also a 1942 graduate of Temple University. He was a member of Blue Key and Kappa Phi Kappa. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa graduate honor society. Mr. Steigner served as a bombardier and a navigator in the 8th Air Force 398th Bomb Group during World War II. He began his long career with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company in 1951 rising to the position of Vice President. He was a charter member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church.
Mr. Steigner is survived by his daughters, Barbara Bland of Columbia, Sally Duckett of Rembert, Daun Steigner of Columbia and Gabrielle Steigner of Birmingham, AL; son, Dr. John Bruce Steigner of Houma, LA; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Mr. Steigner introduced me to sailing and smooth Kentucky Burbon. I'll think of him and his fine family the next time I hoist a sail. He definitely had a "good run".
