John M. Steigner

COLUMBIA - Funeral services for John M. Steigner, 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with entombment to follow. The family will receive friends after the service in the mausoleum chapel. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mr. Steigner was born November 30, 1918 in Germantown, PA and passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Mr. Steigner was a son of the late Marcus C. Steigner and Caroline Potts Steigner. Mr. Steigner was a 1938 graduate of Germantown Academy and also a 1942 graduate of Temple University. He was a member of Blue Key and Kappa Phi Kappa. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa graduate honor society. Mr. Steigner served as a bombardier and a navigator in the 8th Air Force 398th Bomb Group during World War II. He began his long career with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company in 1951 rising to the position of Vice President. He was a charter member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church.

Mr. Steigner is survived by his daughters, Barbara Bland of Columbia, Sally Duckett of Rembert, Daun Steigner of Columbia and Gabrielle Steigner of Birmingham, AL; son, Dr. John Bruce Steigner of Houma, LA; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
