Cameron Leslie Horton COLUMBIA - Cameron Leslie Horton, "Les," passed away peacefully with his wife, Vi, by his side, Saturday morning March 29th 2014. A son of the late Charles Washington Horton and Edna Fennell Horton, he was predeceased by sisters, Ethelyn Horton Rentz and Lillian Horton Altman, brothers, John Sidney Horton, James Lee Horton and Phillip Reece Horton, and a grandson, E. Gregory Ramirez. He was a descendant of Maj. William Horton of Oglethorpe's Regiment, the first English settler on Jekyll Island, and succeeded Oglethorpe in 1743 as military commander for the Colony of Georgia. "Les" was born and grew up at the Okeetee Hunting Club near Hardeeville, SC. After serving in the Korean conflict, he brought his wife, and daughter, Celva, to live in Los Angeles, CA, where his daughter, Leslie, and his sons, Gary and Edward were born. He explored the Southwest with his family and then settled in Columbia, SC. He was a member of Laurel Baptist Church and visited Taiwan and Romania on missionary trips. He was an avid Gamecock fan, attending home games and away games in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. He loved plants and always had an extra for a friend. He was an honorable man, kindness and integrity described him. All who knew him were blessed and he will be greatly missed. Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Laurel Baptist Church, 2250 Pine Street, West Columbia, SC 29170. Visitation will be one hour prior. Honorary pallbearers are the Senior Men's Sunday School Class at Laurel Baptist Church. (803) 356-4411
