Carl M. Manheim Jr. COLUMBIA- Longtime Columbia resident, Carl M. Manheim, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on Friday March 14, 2014 at Palmetto Richland Hospital. He leaves his behind a legacy of friends and family who he loved dearly including his wonderful wife of 42 years, Julia Ann Johnson Manheim; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Kay Johnson Ruff of Saluda, SC; his nephew, Ken Ruff and his wife, Lisa; and his niece, Lea Ann Ruff Sorensen and her husband, Stephen of Roebuck, SC. He also leaves his grand-niece and nephews, who were like grandchildren to him, Coleman Ruff, John Ruff, Tyler Sorensen, Lydia Sorensen, Jesse Sorensen and David Sorensen. Also, he leaves behind one who was like family to him - his friend and business partner Josh Salonich and his wife Meagan and their daughter Emma. An entrepreneur and retired senior executive of operations from Wachovia National Bank, Carl was a compelling individual who never met a stranger. He was committed to his church, St. Andrews Baptist Church and was always involved in various community projects through the American Red Cross, District Five Foundation, Irmo Arbor Day Association, Freedom Foundation, Rotary Club of Lake Murray and Keep the Midlands Beautiful where he was awarded the 2013 Benefactor of the Year. Carl was passionate about his work in the community it was a big part of his life. He was also a loyal Clemson fan and an avid golf fan. Carl, or "Manheim" as he was mostly referred to, will be missed. He had a way of working himself into the hearts and lives of those who knew him. Visitation will be held at St. Andrews Baptist Church on Monday, March 17th between 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. in the chapel with the funeral service to follow in the sanctuary at 12:00 noon. Pastor Ronald "Dee" Vaughan will be officiating the service. His burial will be in the Travis Park Cemetery in Saluda, SC at 3:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are being managed by Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, in Irmo, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrews Baptist Church at 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. The family would like express their gratitude and appreciation to the workers of Home Instead, Hospice, Palmetto Richland Hospital and his personal nurse, Trina Gibson and his trusted advisor Denise Hill, who were so supportive of Carl during his final days.
