Donald Bruce Dowler COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Donald Bruce Dowler, 80, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the funeral home. Mr. Dowler passed away Friday, March 28, 2014. Born in Blackford, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Dwight V. Dowler and Ina Pearl Brantley Hetrick. He was a member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, Blythewood. Mr. Dowler received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Carolina and retired from the State of South Carolina. He served in the USMC during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dowler was a Professional Scouter as well as a volunteer having earned the Silver Beaver Award with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Masonic Lodge #326 of Columbia, SC. Surviving are his brother, Douglas "Bud" Dowler and wife, Beverley Dowler; niece, Jennifer Stevenson and husband, Frank; nephew, Larry Dowler and wife, Jill. He is also survived by a half sister, Sandra Somsen; two half brothers, Bruce and Gary Dowler; seven great nieces and nephews.
