James "Jim" Berley Meetze WEST COLUMBIA James "Jim" Berley Meetze, 69, of West Columbia, died Thursday, May 15, 2014. Born in Lexington, SC, he was a son of the late Berley Jesse Meetze and Mary Leola Wessinger Meetze. A U.S. Army veteran, James served in Vietnam. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, and worked at Fort Jackson for over 30 years. He enjoyed coaching his grandchildren's soccer team and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Golden Meetze; sons, James F. (Beverly) Meetze, Lee A. (Tammy) Meetze; grandchildren, Timothy J. (Brittany) Meetze, James C., Austin, Brandon, Ryan and Ashley Meetze; brother, Tommy Meetze; sister, Virginia Golden; sister-in-law, Gwen Meetze; and many other nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by brother, Raymond Meetze, and sister-in-law, Brenda. The funeral service for Mr. Meetze will be held 12:30 o'clock Monday, May 19th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with Chaplain Robert W. Cely, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Meetze, James C. Meetze, Brandon Meetze, Ryan Meetze, Austin Meetze, Clay Asbury, Johnny Tidwell and Berley Tidwell.
