James J. Johnson COLUMBIA - James J. Johnson, beloved husband and father, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Johnson was born on March 10, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Joseph and Genevieve Campagna Johnson. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University in 1951 and served as a Reserve Officer in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, including active duty in Asia during the Korean War. Mr. Johnson retired in the late 1980s from a 35-year career as a business executive. From 1955 to 1970 he worked at IBM Corporation and was the youngest ever appointee at the time to the company's Corporate Director of Marketing position. Mr. Johnson also held various executive management and board positions at RCA Corporation, Western Union Telegraph Company, The Singer Company, and Group L Corp. In his retirement, Mr. Johnson enjoyed spending time with his wife in South Carolina and Florida, playing tennis, and managing his investment portfolio. He was an avid reader, walker, and follower of current events. He is survived by his wife, Karol "Kiki" Johnson, and his four children, James J. Johnson Jr., Jeffrey J. Johnson, Janet J.
