James Robert "Bobby" Braithwaite WEST COLUMBIA - James Robert "Bobby" Braithwaite, 72, went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 29, 2014. Born November 18, 1941 in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Robert and Nina Braithwaite. He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC where he found his passion serving the needs of his community. His mission ministry work extended to Panther, West Virginia where it was clear to everyone that his heart was full of love for its people and was reflected through the hard labor he joyfully gave. Working with his hands was his greatest talent; demonstrated in the furniture, cabinetry and the beautiful gardens he created. He graduated from Dreher High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Crisis. Following his service to our country he became an entrepreneur working in the flooring industry and was co-owner of BRACO Carpet Service. His next career move would be a 20+ year career at IllumElex Lighting Corporation as an electrician. After retiring, he continued to use his gifts to help maintain his home church. Bobby found his greatest and most fulfilling love was in caring for his two precious granddaughters. Few men have ever poured as much of themselves into their grandchildren. His example left an indelible impression on his children that will remain forever. Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Jane Hicks Braithwaite; daughter, Lynn (Troy) Williams of Lexington, and sons Bill (Stephanie) Braithwaite of Lexington and Cliff Braithwaite of Columbia; three grandchildren, Elena Williams, Cody Herron and Emily Braithwaite. There will be visitation on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Hwy, Cayce, SC 29033 from 4-6 p.m. in the foyer of the Worship Center. Burial will be private.
