Lloyd Hargrove Morgan DUMFRIES, VA - Funeral service for Lloyd Hargrove Morgan, 97, formerly of Columbia, S.C., will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Fort Jackson Blvd. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia. Lloyd died July 12, 2013 at his home in Virginia of natural causes related to old age. Born November 9, 1915, in Springfield, S.C., he was the son of Martin Friday and Rebecca Carolina Morgan. In February 1934, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 1941, he was part of a group that set up the first tent camp at Montford Point, the precursor to Camp Lejeune. He served in the Pacific during WWII, in China, at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea and in Vietnam, receiving a Bronze Star for his service in Korea. On January 1, 1967, he retired from the Marine Corps after serving 33 years. He married Urell on October 24, 1947 in Augusta, Georgia. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission for the church with Urell in London, England, in 1982. He was called as the Bishop of the Columbia Fourth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in April of 1975. He enjoyed reading, cooking, and being with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his two daughters, Frances Thomas (Michael), Janet Price (Clark); five grandchildren, Kayla Olsen (Curtis), Bryan Morgan (Michaella), Rebecca Price Brainard, Benjamin (Jessica), Elizabeth Price; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
