I was walking down the hallway preparing to anchor the newscast when this beautiful smile greeted me out of nowhere. It was Sheila introducing herself to me while interning at WOLO, Channel 25 in Columbia, SC. That was nearly 25-yrs ago. We have been close ever since. Sheila was a wonderful spirit and we always loved each other.

Sheila always remarked at our Sister4SistersNetwork meetings in Prince George's County, Maryland how much I looked like an aunt of hers. I just couldn't imagine that because until adulthood and beyond, I had an identical twin sister, Martha, who is now deceased for a few years. I know that Sheila and Martha have already met and are fast friends just like that. I find comfort that they have already met and I'm sure are fast friends by now and Martha is showing her around heaven as they both loved God. My sister was an educator and always involved in some project or endeavor at work and in her private life. I'm sure Sheila is already assisting my sister Martha in advertising her project in the Southern California section of heaven and then they will fly back to the Washington, DC and Maryland section of heaven to get involved with whatever Sheila was promoting at the time. I just know they have already met and are talking about family and Sheila's little son, Jonathan. So, girls, keep me posted on what you're working on now. I find great comfort in knowing you two have already met and are fast friends, and busy, busy, busy. Keep me posted.

I had the honor and privilege to meet and work with Sheila in 2009-2011. We became immediate friends and sisters. I know her love for Jonathan, for life and for people. Although I had not seen her in a while, every time I heard her name and/or heard her voice on the radio it made me smile and made my heart happy. She will be missed tremendously. Mother Stewart, you raised an awesome woman of God. She left an awesome legacy of kindness, goodness and love. I know you want her here, but God wanted her with Him. Be strong family and keep the faith. He is the author and finisher of our faith.

To the Family of Sheila Stewart,
May God grant you the peace that surpasses all understanding during this difficult period. I will miss her along with so many others who were blessed to know her. I pray that you will be comforted in knowing that she has been called from labor to reward as Proverbs 31 reminds us: "Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies? To the family, Sheila was a joy to know and her love of life showed in all that she did. She was a blessing to so many people and she will be dearly missed. Gone to soon, but she leaves a legacy that's rooted in her devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, love of family and the giving of her time and talent to positively impact the lives of others.

A devotional reading I received on the morning of her passing simply stated "Jesus said to him, 'Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise'." ... How comforting to know that Sheila is indeed in paradise.
My prayers are with you all and may the memories you have of Sheila sustain you through the tough times when you find yourself missing her most.

To Shelia's lovely family! Earth has lost a jewel of a person today...I can search high and low but shall never find another Shelia who always embraced me with her kind words and encouragement down through the years. Shewas one of my biggest fans, always coming to hear me sing and many times...asking me to perform on an event she was involved in. I will always remember singing in one of her Sister's wedding per her request. As I stated she was always one of my greatest fans, but deep in my heart I hope she knew...I was really the biggest fan she had!!! Bravo Shelia for a life lived !!! You lived your life to the fullest..You have been an example for so many of us!! God forever keep you close to him...Love you always my old Friend!!

I first met Sheila in 1986, her
Senior year in high school. Sheila entered the Miss Black
Chester Pageant to earn a scholarship to assist with her
college tuition. I remember her
As being very versatile. She sang while playing the piano, she just simply stood out. You could
Tell there was something special about Sheila:
she was very outgoing, assessable to others, working to improve herself at all times.

Sheila not only won title that year(1986), but
Went on to place at the State's level as well.
Sheila always represented the title with Pride and Dignity.....raising the bar for others to follow.

Sheila went on to college at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. She moved to Charlotte, NC, where she worked as an adjunct
Professor at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC. She worked for WPEG-Power 98, as well as a News and Traffic Reporter with WBTV Channel 3. While in Charlotte Sheila took the city by storm. When you turned on the radio, you would hear Sheila. When you turned on the television you would see Sheila.
Better still while attending parades; you would hear the crowd chanting her name up and down
the street. A mega star Sheila was indeed loved by many.

A talented woman whose contributions will
Long be felt by communities throughout the United States, a beacon on national success.

On behalf of the Miss Black Chester Pageant Family, Our Sympathy and Condolences goes
out to The Sheila Stewart's Family.
