William "Bill" Stanley Catchings Sr. BOWMAN - Memorial service for William S. "Bill" Catchings, Sr., 81, will be held at Bowman Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 conducted by Rev. Tommy Thurston and Rev. Frank Meyers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Inurnment will be at 4:00 p.m. at Bush River Memorial Gardens in Columbia. The family will also receive friends at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, following the inurnment. Memorials may be made to Regency Hospice of Orangeburg; Leader Dog for the Blind, c/o Beaufort Lions Club; or the . Mr. Catchings was born October 30, 1932 in Tallassee, AL and passed away on June 24, 2014. He was a son of the late Euel Joy Catchings, Sr. and Jewell Redden Catchings. Mr. Catchings was a member of Edisto Baptist Church, a Korean War veteran, a graduate of Auburn University and retired from BellSouth. He was a former member of the St. Andrews Lions Club and the Palmetto Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was very active in Dixie Youth Baseball and other community activities in the St. Andrews area of Columbia during the time his family lived there. Mr. Catchings was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends whose lives he impacted and enriched. Surviving are his wife, Catherine L. Catchings; children: Connie Huffstetler (Larry), Debbie Hahn (Carl), Patti Younger (Lawson), Stan Catchings (Tina); step-children: Kathy West (Don), Cindy Williams (Ed), Tony Lunsford (Gloria), Doug Lunsford (Cindy) and Andi Jones (Jeff); 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
