Annie Mae Darnell Creech LEXINGTON - Annie Mae Darnell Creech died Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Lexington, SC. She was born July 25, 1923, in Denmark, SC. She was the daughter of Clara Mae DeHay and Luther Reginald Darnell, and she was predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years, Willard O'Neal Creech. She was a nurse, having first worked in Denmark for Dr. Mole, who encouraged her to become a nurse, and then for more than 30 years with Dr. Michael Watson, Dr. Marion Dwight and Dr. William Glenn in Bamberg, SC. Loved by all she touched, and she touched a lot of people, she was soft-spoken and very kind, and she helped so many people over her almost 91 years, not just as a nurse, but as a friend and neighbor, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Annie Mae is survived by her daughter, Mary Creech McCants (Thomas R.) of Lexington, SC; her son, Gregory O'Neal Creech of Pine Lake, GA; a granddaughter, Rebecca McCants Long (Jason D.) of Huntersville, NC; a grandson, Thomas R. "Zabo" McCants, III, (Amanda H.) of Wedgefield, SC; and two great-grandsons, Jack E. and John T. Long of Huntersville, NC. Visitation with the family is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Denmark, SC, followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Bamberg Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to the First Baptist Church of Denmark, 533 South Beech Avenue, Denmark, SC 29042; to Lexington Medical Extended Care; or to one's own church or charity.
