Christine Gibbons Chitwood BALLENTINE Christine Gibbons Chitwood, 85, passed away quietly on July 8th, 2013. A Scattering of the Ashes will be held on September 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Miss Christine's home on Lake Murray. It will be a joint service for Christine and her deceased husband, Marvin B. Chitwood, so that they may rest together. Christine was raised in the Olympia section of Columbia during WWII. She was a beautiful young operator at the famed Jefferson Hotel in Columbia until she met her husband, Marvin. Together they built their many businesses and raised their family. In 1959 they came to Lake Murray where they remained for the rest of their lives. Christine was a dedicated caregiver to Marvin during his 20-year illness and a loving mother and grandmother. Christine was the youngest daughter of Thaddeous E. and Hattie Halford Gibbons. She is survived by her sons, Marvin B. Chitwood, Jr. (Deirdre) and C. Brent Chitwood (Linda); sister, Irma Frye and grandson, C. Bryan Chitwood. She was predeceased by her brother, T.E. Gibbons, and sisters, Marion Clamp, Virginia Hemingway and Doris Bright.
